Indiana Grown: No Name Salsa INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) —  Each and every Saturday, WISH-TV highlights a local company together with our partners at Indiana Grown. This week, Rebecca Dobbins, owner of No Name Salsa, joined News 8 at Daybreak. Dobbins, who started making salsa from her husband ’s family recipe nearly 20 years ago, recently added another accolade to her growing list of honors: First place and Best in Show for her honey at the Indiana State Fair. The honey is a newer addition to the business. Dobbins and her husband initially started making salsa for friends and family in 2008, and the salsa never got a formal name – hence the name… “It didn’t have a name, and (so No Name) stuck,” Dobbins said. “So, our slogan has become, ‘It’s salsa so good it doesn’t need a name.’” No Name Salsa now offers four varieties: Mild, made with Anaheim peppers for flavor without heat; Medium and hot, which include jalapeño; Extra hot, which adds habanero peppers. They also make tortilla chips seasoned with lime and salt. Dobbins and her husband grow about 300 pepper plants on their farm and source additional fresh ingredients from other local farmers. “We use fresh ingredients from our farm and from other local farms,” she said. “We keep it interesting and just add products as we come up with them.” The salsa is produced in a commercial commissary kitchen. Dobbins also bakes sourdough bread at home and raises chickens and bees on the property. Beyond selling honey, Dobbins uses her beekeeping operation to educate the community. She brings an observation hive to schools, community events and farmers markets. She has also worked with the Terra Treatment Center and a local community garden, teaching people about the life cycle of bees and their role in agriculture. “They are actually considered livestock, which a lot of people don’t realize, but they pollinate a large portion of the food that we rely on for our own survival,” Dobbins said. “So the honeybees are very vital to our own survival, so we have to take care of them.” No Name Salsa is a regular vendor at the Franklin Farmers Market, which was named Indiana Grown’s Ultimate Farmers Market for the second consecutive year. The Franklin market operates Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. ...read more read less
