LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Frank Richards leads a locally owned in-home senior care provider in Lexington. The work is personal for the president of Home Instead as his stepfather, a military veteran, has Alzheimer’s disease. “I’ve always wanted to have a sense of contributing in a larger way… and so we’ve been in the middle of trying to figure out how to support my mom as the primary caregiver,” Richards said. While Richards works to provide support for his mom at home, his business, Home Instead, delivers care funded through Kentucky’s HCB Waiver, which provides care for veterans through the VA Community Care Network, and is covered by many long-term care insurance policies. Brent Stephens, Richards’ general manager and a former caregiver whose father is an Army veteran, describes the impact. “A lot of folks who’ve seen some hard things, they’ve experienced some difficult moments, and to be able to help them… to give back in this way is really special,” Stephens said. Richards also works to create more meaningful conversation around finding ways for families to access senior care — and says the need is only growing. “The aging population over 80 is going to grow by 55% in the next 10 years, over 85 is like quadruple through 2040,” Richards said. Richards is sending a direct message to the community as Home Instead looks to expand its workforce. “Come be a caregiver… We need the caregivers as well to come and help support the efforts,” Richards said.
