Younger neighbors around Boise have a chance to use their imagination and make a difference in the world. The City of Boise received $50,000 in funding for youth-led climate action projects. Bloomberg Philanthropies awarded the money to the city as a way to encourage youth involvement in climate initiatives. Boise residents ages 15 to 24 can apply for project funding now through Oct. 2. In a press release, Mayor Lauren McLean wrote, Boises Youth Climate Action projects have played an important role in creating a sustainable and resilient future for our residents, and young people are leading the way.This is the third year the City of Boise has received this funding - totaling $130,000 in awards to support 32 projects. These initiatives have included planting trees for shade, painting murals, installing e-bike charging stations, and adding bird-safe window designs to schools. The city said the success of those projects helped them secure the funding for this year.This years Youth Climate Action Fund will support up to 20 projects.
