The Greyhound, a globally inspired gastropub in downtown Covington, has closed after six years in business. The restaurant operated at 701 E. Boston St. in a former Greyhound bus station that husband-and-wife owners David and Torre Solazzo transformed into a casual, modern dining spot with a wide-ranging menu.
The couple will continue operating Del Porto Ristorante, their Italian restaurant located about two blocks away at 501 E. Boston St.
“This is not a decision we made lightly, and certainly not one we ever imagined when we began construction on the space in 2020,” the owners said in a social media post. “We’ve spent the last several years giving everything we have to both restaurants, and we’ve realized that it’s time to make a change. Del Porto is still the heart of what we do. It deserves our full attention, our creativity and our energy. And our family deserves that energy, as well. So, we’re choosing to focus on what matters most.”
The Greyhound was the Solazzos’ second Covington restaurant after Del Porto, which has long been a dining anchor in the city’s downtown district. While Del Porto is known for Italian cuisine, The Greyhound was built around a broader gastropub concept with a menu that drew from several global influences and included the likes of fish and chips, doner kebabs, matzo ball soup, wood-fired oven pizza, smash burgers, steaks, wine, and a long list of imported beers.
“We are incredibly proud of what The Greyhound became and so grateful to everyone who helped make it special … our incredible staff, our loyal regulars, and everyone who came through the doors and shared a meal, a drink, a celebration or a memory with us,” the owners wrote. “Thank you for being part of The Greyhound and for 25 years of believing in us at Del Porto.”
The Solazzos also said they are planning a new take-home food component through Del Porto in the coming weeks.
“We’re not slowing down, we’re just changing gears,” the owners said. “In a couple of weeks, we’ll be introducing some ‘Gourmet To Go’ items with weekly menus of some of our favorite things to cook and share with you at home. We’re really excited about this new way to bring Del Porto and Greyhound into your kitchen.”
