INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has signed an executive order to suspend all fees for eligible permits related to flood damage repair.According to the mayor's office, the suspension is intended to help reside
nts and property owners save money recovering from historic flooding in Central Indiana. As our neighbors begin the long, difficult journey of rebuilding their lives after this flooding event, we at the City of Indianapolis are exploring ways to help ease burdens they may face, Mayor Hogsett said. Our goal with the suspension of permit fees for flood-damaged properties is so that individuals have one less thing to worry about during the recovery process. The Department of Neighborhood Services (DBNS) will administer the fee, which will remain in effect through Sept. 13. It applies to any eligible permit submitted on and after Aug. 14.DBNS, which enforces regulation related to Marion County's special flood hazard area, says properties within this area are eligible for the fee suspension.Property owners within the flood hazard area are asked to fill out the Disaster Damage Reporting form to determine the location, nature and severity of damage.Properties located outside the special flood hazard area may also be eligible for permit fee suspension. However, these requests must include documentation from an insurance company attesting flood damage and will be reviewed by DBNS on a case-by-case basis. The fee suspension includes application, review, and issuance fees.Applicable permits include floodplain development permits, wrecking permits, drainage permits, improvement location permits, structural permits for both residential and commercial buildings, and select right-of-way permits.Craft permits, such as heating and cooling, plumbing, and electrical permits, will also have fees waived.Questions about the permitting process, and anyone who is seeking waived fees, can contact DBNS by emailing [email protected] or calling 317-327-7800.MORE RESOURCES | How to find and give flood relief in Indiana
