Local stylist hosting free hair care event this weekend for kids headed back to school

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A local hair stylist is hosting a back to school community hair day this weekend for kids. This is the third year Katiyah Hines will provide free hair care for kids in Charlotte. Her Braid Barbie Foundation has partnered with Empire Beauty School, the Mecklenburg County Sherif
f’s Office, Bank of America, and Freedom Fighter Missionaries. Hines was on Rising Wednesday morning with WCCB Charlotte’s Joe Duncan.
Duncan asked Hines, “When they sit in your chair and, and they come in looking one way, they leave out looking another way. Do you see that they have been kind of transformed in their, in their minds too?”
Hines replied, “Yes. And their confidence as well. Even the parents too, just having that feeling that their child going to school with their hair done.” She continues, “Community is important and I had to depend on the community one time, and I just wanted to do my part and show them that thank you for helping me, and now I wanna help and point to the community as well.”
Hines says she and other volunteers help about 100 kids at these events. It’ll run this coming Saturday and Sunday. Click here to register.
