INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) Ravenswood residents piled debris in front of their homes Thursday as cleanup from the historic flooding continued. In the neighborhood, you'd hear power tools whirring, hammers banging and fans running arou
nd the clock.Ronald Wright invited Circle City Broadcasting into his home on Ralston Avenue."Raised four kids and a bunch of grandkids," Ron said, holding back tears as he looked around his home. "It's hard."Wright and his wife have lived in their home for about 60 years."We've had a lot of good life out here," he said. "Great neighbors. And neighbors always helping neighbors out here through difficult times like this, which is absolutely amazing."Ron said his insurance will cover his home but not everything inside."Stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, water heater, garbage disposal, dishwasher. All that stuff is gone," he said. "I mean it's all got to get replaced."Ron recalled dealing with flooding in the past. He mentioned the flooding from 1991."We thought the way that they had explained it, it would be the same height," Ron said. "And then they revised it to 21-something, and I went, 'Oh Lord, what am I going to do now?'"He knew what he had done back then to save his things wouldn't be enough now."I had all my stuff on paint cans, which really helped save a lot of my stuff the last time. But I knew it was out of the question," he said.Ron said family have worked around the clock since he returned to the home on Monday morning. His children and grandchildren have cleared things out, cleaned and brought food. There may no longer be any water, but the damage is unmissable."I've collected these beautiful Christmas boxes for years and I had two big tubs full of those," Ron said. "And that started my wife off crying. and then that started me off. Just stuff like that. And that's what's hurtful. You can never get it back."Marion County residents impacted by flooding can report damage online or call 211 or 866-211-9966 to report damage and request assistance.
