ANDERSON, Ind. (WRTV) -- Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick, Jr. is thanking community organizations, businesses and individuals who are helping victims of last week's floods, but also says federal and state government aid is neede d for a full recovery."This is going to take several millions of dollars, and we need help from the state and federal government," Broderick said Wednesday. "We need a major disaster declaration from the president in order to free up funds from FEMA ... We need it to come and we need it to come as fast as possible because the folks that are suffering right now are seriously suffering and they do need this help and it's very real."One of those flood victims is Tianna Caldwell, who lives on Milton Avenue, a short distance from the White River. Caldwell said the flooding destroyed the first floor of her house."It's been a roller coaster," she said. "At first I was in shock ... We just moved here, not even a year ago, and we didn't think we were even in a flood zone."Caldwell said her family is now staying in a hotel while they work on rebuilding their home. Without flood insurance, she said she hopes FEMA will help with the restoration."We have to take the drywall completely out, we have to refloor the bottom, personal belongings, furniture, guest bedroom, main bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, it's completely destroyed," she said. "The house may crumble. We don't know yet."Down the street, Jonna Huicochea said her home, which she shares with her parents, is destroyed beyond repair. As of Wednesday, water remained in her basement and some of her walls were warped."There's no way that we can come back at any time just because our foundation is completely done for, so unfortunately, me and my parents do not have a home," she said. "I don't want to live next to a river again. It's kind of traumatizing." ...read more read less
