Police ID suspect after offduty Philadelphia officer killed in double shooting

A suspect has been identified in a shooting at an after-hours lounge in Southwest Philadelphia that left an off-duty police officer dead, police said.
On Wednesday, police confirmed they had identified a suspect in the killing of off-duty officer Alhassane Barry.
The person’s name is being
withheld because charges have not been filed, according to police.
Police added they are in contact with the suspect’s attorney and that the investigation remains ongoing.
Investigation into the death of off-duty officer Alhassane Barry
Barry, 29, was killed in a shooting that happened just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. 2026 at an after-hours lounge located near the intersection of 73rd Street and Elmwood Avenue.
In that incident, officials said, Barry was one of two men shot multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A 35-year-old man was also shot multiple times and was treated at a nearby hospital.
Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 showed a marked Philadelphia police vehicle driving near the area around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Roughly 10 seconds later, someone is seen leaving the after-hours lounge before a fight breaks out.
Shots are then fired and people are seen running from the area.
Police said they recovered a gun and were reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation. It was unclear whose gun investigators recovered.

The photos were released after family, fellow officers and community members gathered to mourn Barry.
The funeral for Barry was held on Monday at the Islamic Center of Philadelphia, a little more than a quarter-mile from where the shooting happened. A prayer service was scheduled to follow.
The quick timeline between Barry’s death and funeral is rooted in Islamic teachings and emphasizes returning the body to the earth.
The president of the Guinean Association of Delaware Valley spoke with NBC10 ahead of the services and said it was a sad day not only for Barry’s family, but for the entire community.
After the funeral, Barry’s family pleaded for an end to gun violence.
“This gun violence. We want this to stop. They have to know, it’s them dying too because they’re killing each other. So, stop it please,” Barry’s mother, Aissatou Bah, said.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker also released a statement that expressed her remorse for the officer’s death and urged anyone with useful information to come forward in the investigation.
“Any loss to gun violence significantly impacts us all. We will never stop working to make Philadelphia a safer city,” she said.
