Dozier Field construction delays displace Miners football team
Aug 18, 2026
It’s not uncommon for large construction projects to experience some sort of hiccup that delays completion.
The effort to renovate Dozier Field at Park City High School has become one such case, and the delay has forced the Miners football team to find an alternative site for their home open
er against Morgan next Friday.
Park City Head Coach Dennis Cunningham revealed the delay in an interview with The Park Record last Tuesday.
“Dozier is not expected to be ready,” Cunningham said. “We’re going to have to go on the road again.”
The renovations to Dozier include a new track, bleachers, locker rooms, speaker system, press boxes, concession stands and bathrooms.
The renovations are part of an athletics overhaul at the high school, also including new soccer, lacrosse, softball, baseball and tennis facilities. The Park City School District said in July that they expect the renovations to total nearly $48 million dollars.
The Miners will now face Morgan at South Summit High School, less than a 20 minute drive from Park City High School into Kamas.
The South Summit football team will be on the road taking on Juab next Friday.
Park City Athletic Director Jamie Sheetz said on Friday that he was unsure if the school would be bussing students or families out to South Summit for the game, as plans were still getting into motion.
Cunningham said Sheetz and others from the school would be going this week to check out South Summit’s facilities ahead of the game.
“I know it’s a great stadium,” Cunningham said. “I know our fans will travel over there and support us with a 20-minute ride. We’re looking forward to playing Morgan. Morgan is historically a very good team. That coach (head coach Jared Barlow) over there has had that program going for a while.”
The Miners dropped their first game of the season in overtime to Sky View Friday.
Park City will look to rebound against defending 4A state champions Ridgeline on the road at 7 p.m. this Friday.

Park City’s next home game after the Morgan game is scheduled against Salem Hills on Sept. 11. Sheetz is optimistic the Miners will play that game at Dozier, though South Summit is also on the road that week if their field is needed.
If Park City is able to play on Dozier against Salem Hills, that would be the first of three home games this regular season for them.
