Water main break leaves Bridesburg neighbors waiting for water to be restored
Aug 18, 2026
A water main break in Philadelphia’s Bridesburg neighborhood has left several homes without water Tuesday as crews worked along Lefevre Street.
Crews at the scene on Aug. 18 said the water main burst around noon, sending water gushing into the street. Video from earlier in the day showed muddy
water flooding parts of the buckled roadway.
Neighbors said crews have been doing some type of construction on the street for the past month. They said the water main burst at some point during Tuesday’s work, shutting off water to several homes on the block.
Residents said they had been without water for several hours, leaving them unable to shower on a hot day or cook.
“There was a lot of noise, and I looked out, the street was buckling up and, you know, went to the bathroom and couldn’t flush… a little frustrating,” neighbor Alexis Macool said.
“We want it on! As soon as possible. I mean we have to go out and get water,” neighbor Terri Steele said.
NBC10 reached out to the water department to ask when repairs would be completed and water service restored but we are still waiting to hear back.
