FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Fairfield County officials say firefighters are still on site monitoring the situation at the Healthcare US MLily facility in Winnsboro. Fairfield County Fire Service, EMS and Rescue Squad, along with volunteer agencies from around the state are working together to get the fire completely under control. Officials say the fire has been largely put out but there is smoke coming from hot spots under the rubble. Fairfield County Fire Services will be using a thermal drone Tuesday, August 18, to examine the rubble and identify the hot spots. Once it is deemed safe, crews will use heavy equipment to uncover the hot spots and put those out, say Fairfield County officials. Officials believe this process could take more than a week or two to eradicate the hot spots completely. Residents are advised that smoke will be persistent in this area until all of the hot spots are put out. The EPA has been on site since Monday at 2:30 p.m. monitoring the air quality conditions. Officials have confirmed that there is no danger to citizens and updates will continue to be provided as more information is available. Hwy 321 was re-opened for traffic in both directions on Monday night about 9 p.m. but since there is still smoke in the area; citizens and drivers are asked to approach the area with caution and to try not to enter the property.
