Sam, a speech-language pathologist from New Jersey, and Nikole, an oral surgeon from Alabama, met on Hinge during a time when they were each new to the DMV. Sam felt an immediate sense of ease with Niki; Niki says she found Sam to be sweet, adventurous, and endearingly nerdy. For their first date, t hey met up for coffee on Christmas Eve, and about a year later, Niki planned a birthday trip to Maui and proposed to Sam, only to discover that Sam had been planning the very same thing. “What was meant to be a single proposal turned into a serendipitous double proposal!” The Southern California couple was engaged for just over two years while Niki finished her residency and used that time, they say, to create the vision for their dream wedding. One special detail was the coordination of their veils: Samantha’s was lined with crepe to match Niki’s gown, while Niki’s veil featured beads as a nod to Samantha’s. Other highlights of the day included the reception band, which they say learned and performed every song they love without missing a single note; custom magnets featuring cherry blossoms that served as favors; a mix of Asian and American cuisine that they say highlighted the merging of their cultures; and a dessert spread that included white cake, mini cheesecakes, carrot cake, and tiramisu.
