Camila Fuentes, a recent Hockaday High School graduate, has a scholarship to Villanova University, with plans to study civil engineering. Fuentes and her family were going to be making a cross-country road trip before classes start Wednesday. But a day before they were set to leave, Camila never returned home. Her family says they found her car in an empty parking lot outside her job, the Cheddars Restaurant in North Garland, with her phone and keys left behind. It was after 1 in the morning Thursday, August 13, when they went looking for her. “I can’t breathe sometimes,” Diana Decanini, Camila’s mother, said. “I need my baby.” Sitting down with NBC 5 Sunday, Camila’s mother, father and sister flipped through her senior memory yearbook. Camila, an academic standout who they describe as happy and full of life, was involved in multiple sports, orchestra and even coached a youth soccer team during High School. They say she didn’t show signs of depression, making her disappearance more alarming for them. “I still feel like I’m dreaming and that I’m going to wake up tomorrow and she’s going to call me,” Clarissa Fuentes, Camila’s older sister, said. In their living room, Camila’s things for college sit packed up in the corner. The Rowlette Police Department put out a missing person alert last week, asking the public to come forward with any information on Camila’s disappearance. Her family told NBC 5 that her passport and birth certificate are no longer in a lock box where she kept them. They aren’t sure what could have happened to her, though they do worry for her safety. “My daughter doesn’t believe that bad people exist in the world,” Decanin said. “I think someone is taking advantage of her goodness.” According to Camila’s family, multiple detectives from the Rowlette Police Department are now working the case.
