A good Samaritan was shot in the leg while intervening in an attempted robbery in a South Shore Center parking lot in Alameda, authorities said. Alameda Police Department officers responded to the shopping center at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, following a report of gunfire. During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that an individual approached a victim and demanded their property. When the victim refused, a struggle ensued. A good Samaritan who witnessed the incident attempted to intervene and assist the victim, police said. During the struggle, a firearm was produced and discharged once, striking the good Samaritan in the leg. The first victim was treated and released at the scene. The good Samaritan was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was arrested at the scene and subsequently transported to a local hospital. While an arrest has been made, police noted the investigation into the circumstances and events leading up to the incident remains active and ongoing. “We take incidents like this extremely seriously. Acts of violence are unwelcome in the City of Alameda,” Alameda Police Chief Nishant Joshi said in a statement. “Our officers and investigators will continue working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
