A man was shot after drawing his gun while trying to defend himself and his cousin during an armed robbery in Philadelphia, police said. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers were called to the 4100 block of Germantown Avenue around 2:19 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2026 after receiving a report about a person with a gun. When officers got to the scene, police said they found the 25-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg. Police transported him to a nearby hospital where he was placed in stable condition. A preliminary investigation indicated that four unidentified men robbed the victim’s cousin of a Rolex watch reportedly valued at $25,000, police said. An additional suspect approached the 25-year-old man on a bicycle and pointed a handgun at him, according to investigators. Police said the man, who is licensed to carry a gun, drew his weapon to defend himself and his cousin. His firearm malfunctioned, however, and he was shot.
