Police are investigating whether two shootings that happened in North Philadelphia are connected after they happened minutes apart on Friday night. According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, the first shooting happened around 8:16 p.m. on Aug. 14 near the intersection of 21st and Grat z streets in North Philly. When officers got to the scene, they reported finding a young man who had been shot multiple times throughout his body, Pace said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was placed in critical condition. Detectives also found about 20 spent shell casings at that scene, Pace explained. Officers were able to stop a vehicle of interest and that is being included as part of the crime scene. Then, a second shooting unfolded minutes later around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 24th and Elkhart streets which is about one and a half miles from the first incident, Pace said. Officials reported finding a crime scene that had about 25 to 30 spent shell casings but no shooting victim there. Then, officers quickly learned that a 23-year-old man showed up to an area hospital with a gunshot wound to his back, Pace said. The man is listed in stable condition. No motives have been connected to these shooting and no one has been arrested yet. Inspector Pace said that there is nothing officially tying these two shootings together yet, but detectives are looking to see if they are connected.
