Officials have released new details in the fatal shooting of a Fort Worth woman during a road rage incident on I-20 on Thursday morning. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Fort Worth police were dispatched to a shooting in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near Granbury Road at 6:40 a.m. Officer s were told that a woman in a red sedan had been shot by the driver of a blue sedan. Arrest documents state that three citizens witnessed the shooting and stopped to render first aid to the victim, who was inside her vehicle with a gunshot wound to her right side. The victim was later identified as Lataivia Uni-Que Davis, an Everman ISD teacher assistant. She was pronounced deceased on scene at 6:52 a.m. The Fort Worth Homicide Unit was notified of the situation and took over the subsequent investigation. According to the arrest affidavit, homicide detectives walked the scene and saw Davis’s vehicle stopped against the left-side concrete barrier. A silver truck was at an angle in front of Davis’s vehicle, and two other witness vehicles were stopped nearby. Detectives said they saw Davis slumped over the center console with an apparent gunshot wound to her upper right arm or torso. A witness who saw the incident informed homicide detectives that he heard a loud bang before seeing a blue vehicle with its window down driving towards the highway exit on Granbury Road. He also saw Davis’s vehicle swerve into the left shoulder of the highway and noticed a broken passenger window with what appeared to be a bullet hole. Officers later found a single Winchester brand 9mm fired cartridge casing on the Granbury Road exit, approximately 200 feet east of South Drive. The witness’s vehicle was equipped with a camera system that recorded the interaction between Davis and the suspect vehicle. After analyzing the footage, detectives identified the suspect vehicle as a blue Volkswagen SUV. Dash camera footage showed the suspect vehicle next to Davis’s vehicle on South Hulen Street traveling north toward I-20 just before the shooting. The registered owner of the suspect vehicle was identified as 37-year-old Patrick Lapaul Lawrence. His vehicle was later located in Justin, Texas, where Lawrence works. Once Lawrence was arrested, he told law enforcement officers that he was the only occupant of his blue sedan at the time of the incident. Lawrence said when he got in the far-right lane, he was in front of Davis’s vehicle, which began to tailgate his vehicle as he started to enter the highway. Davis’s vehicle quickly merged left, cutting across the white onramp markings to the left of the highway. According to the arrest affidavit, Lawrence told officers that he could not see inside Davis’s vehicle because the windows were tinted. As Davis passed, he pulled out a 9mm Canik pistol and fired one shot in her direction. He said that once he saw that his gunshot struck Davis’s front passenger window, he exited the highway and proceeded to work. Lawrence gave consent for his vehicle to be searched and told officers that the gun he fired was still inside the vehicle. The 9mm pistol was recovered and was loaded with ammunition that had characteristics consistent with the casing recovered from the scene of the shooting. Fort Worth Police said incidents like this are becoming entirely too common. “It’s preventable. And it depends on all of us who are driving behind the wheel. We have to be more cautious about what we’re doing and patient,” said Officer Cynthia Wood with the Fort Worth Police Department. She said not to engage with angry drivers, and report anything you think is dangerous. “You see how a person is driving, call it in.
