The Texas Education Agency released accountability scores for all Texas schools Friday morning. The scores grade how well specific campuses and school districts as a whole perform academically and prepare students for college and to enter the workforce.Scores this year cover the 2025 – 2026 school year. 1,202 districts and 9,105 campuses were rated in 2026. 24% of both districts and campuses increased in rating compared to 2025. 585 campuses across Texas improved from below an A to an A rating in 2026. In total, 85% of campuses that received an A-F rating statewide achieved acceptable academic performance (C or above). In a news release distributed Friday morning, the Texas Education Agency singled out Lorenzo De Zavala Middle School in Irving ISD as being one of several high poverty schools that earned an “A” this school year. Overall, the number of high poverty schools scoring an “A” is up 2% over last year. The release also quoted Education Commissioner Mike Morath. “This year’s A-F ratings illustrate the progress Texas public schools are making and acknowledge the hard work of our educators while illuminating areas of needed improvement to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education. Through our commitment to transparency and accessibility, parents and the public can explore the ratings and associated resources to clearly understand the performance of their schools,” said Morath in the written statement. Dallas ISD released its numbers ahead of the official release on Friday. The district stated, “Dallas ISD students performed at or above the state in growth for 92% of all assessed categories. These gains are especially significant among student groups who have historically faced the greatest challenges.” The written statement went on to say, “Dallas ISD African American students exceeded state performance in math and social studies across all three achievement levels and outperformed their peers in reading at the gold standard level of Meets in the state assessments. Other student groups—emergent bilingual and economically disadvantaged—also outperformed their state peers in all subjects, especially at the Meets and Masters levels.” One of the schools scoring an “A” is Skyline High School, which NBC 5 began covering in dept in 2023.Skyline was a “D” rated campus at the time.They installed a new principal, adopted new learning strategies, and expanded their career readiness programs, achieving their goal in just three years. Principal Joe Pouncy told NBC 5 they are estatic of the news and determined to keep growing. Fort Worth ISD‘s test scores cover the 2025 – 2026 school year; a majority of that time was under the watch of the previous board and superintendent, with the state takeover happening in March. These scores give a baseline of where Fort Worth ISD starts from as teachers look to grow this coming school year.
