The Dallas Cowboys take on the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday at Lumen Field. It will be the first game at that stadium since the Seahawks won the NFC Championship Game and then the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are trying to reach those heights for the first time in 30 years, but the Seahawks will not b e handing over their trophies without a fight. The Cowboys’ offense returns all 11 starters from one of the best units in the league last season. They’re aiming to be the “greatest offense there is,” or GOTI. It’s become a team mantra at camp. Credit to Dak Prescott. The defense is trying to rebound from one of the worst seasons in franchise history. The makeover on defense has been much discussed this offseason. A new coordinator (Christian Parker), 2 new first-round picks (Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence), and several veteran offseason additions (Rashan Gary, Dee Winters). Parker brings a new scheme, the rookies bring new intensity, and the veterans bring needed experience to a group that struggled to stop almost everybody in 2025. It’s possible Downs and Lawrence play Saturday, as well as second-year corner Shavon Revell. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer enters his second season after finishing 7-9-1 in year one. Schottenheimer is trying to avoid becoming the first Cowboys coach with back-to-back losing seasons since Dave Campo in 2002. The Cowboys have finished under .500 the last two seasons, but 2024 was under Mike McCarthy, who now coaches the Pittsburgh Steelers. At his opening camp press conference, Hall of Fame Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones talked about believing this team is a playoff contender and being open to making a trade to help that happen. No trades have materialized yet, but the expectations have clearly been set for the 2026 season: playoffs or bust. Seattle lost several key starters, but returns Rockwall’s Jaxson Smith-Njigba, the league’s leading receiver last year. Seattle drafted Denison’s Jadarian Price to compete at running back, but it is unclear if he will play after missing several practices this month. The Cowboys’ season opener is against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, Sept. 13.
