A beloved Oakland institution is closing its doors after more than two decades. Home of Chicken and Waffles near Jack London Square will serve its final meals later this month. The restaurant opened in 2004 and is known for its fried chicken, golden waffles and Southern comfort food. Owner Der reck Johnson said the restaurant was never just about the food, but also about bringing people together and giving back to the community. A reason for the closure was not given.
