An autopsy was scheduled Thursday for a cleaning employee who died days after he was shot on his way home from work early Saturday in the Little Village neighborhood. e 2400 block of South Central Park Avenue when gunfire rang out and he was struck in the head, Chicago police said. Viveros Cortes' co-workers, who initially thought the blasts were fireworks, then drove to the Ogden District police station and honked their horn until officers came outside to assist, according to a police report obtained by the Sun-Times. The victim, who was a backseat passenger, was then taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Wednesday, police said. At least 27 shell casings and seven 9 mm casings were found at the scene, according to the police report. Area 4 detectives were investigating.
