FC Dallas is out of the Leagues Cup after falling to Toluca in Mexico. The Leagues Cup is an international World Cup-style competition between MLS and Liga MX, the Mexican top soccer league. Only four teams, two from each league, advance to the semifinals. Columbus Crew, Real Salt Lake, Club Leon , and Toluca are moving on. Dallas’ Croatian star Petar Musa scored his first Leagues Cup goal just 9 minutes in, but Dallas lost 3-1. Musa is tied for the MLS lead with 13 regular-season goals (14 across all competitions). This was the first matchup between Dallas and Toluca in club history; Dallas is 1-2-0 all-time in official competition in Mexico. Dallas’ previous matches in Mexico were a part of the Concacaf Champions League. Dallas defeated two clubs from Mexico last week as part of the same competition. Dallas travels to Austin for a game on Aug. 16. Dallas does not return to Toyota Stadium until Sept. 5. Toyota Stadium is currently undergoing renovations to increase seating and add a partial roof.
