Dear Editor, Housing is a complicated issue. My husband and I have been coming to Vermont to ski and recreate for well over 50 years. He was a part-time ski instructor, so we could afford to ski. He paid Vermont income tax on his salary.  In anticipation of retirement and after putting our s ons through school, we were finally able to afford to buy a home in Vermont 16 years ago. Along with our growing family, we have loved being part-time Vermonters.  READ MORE Since when did paying property taxes, mainly for schools, as non-homesteaders make us the enemy? Where is the balance in this situation? We did not cause this housing situation because we have a well-used vacation home. We do not rent it out as a short-term rental. Friends and family come and use it. We all contribute to the Vermont economy.   No one is owed a house. Vermont needs to do something to encourage industries to come to the state, but they won’t if there are no employees who are trained and ready to work. Three cousins moved to Vermont full-time more than 40 years ago and had eight children. None of these well-educated offspring live in Vermont. I am a Democrat. I am a taxpayer who cannot vote in Vermont. Stop blaming and alienating people like me. Vermont’s economy needs all kinds of people, including those who can afford to live here part-time.
