Open Streets: West Walnut is returning to Center City this fall, bringing seven consecutive Sundays of car-free streets. The event will run from Sept. 13 through Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each Sunday, along portions of Walnut and 18th streets, Center City District (CCD) announced. Stre et closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. along Walnut Street from Broad to 19th streets and along 18th Street from Chestnut to Locust streets. Sansom, 15th, 16th, and 17th streets will remain open to vehicle traffic.  The pedestrian-only streets will serve as an extension of public space, allowing room for expanded al fresco dining and sidewalk retail. Businesses along the route may also offer special promotions, in-store entertainment or exclusive experiences. Organizers said the expanded fall season is intended to encourage residents and visitors to spend Sundays in the area while supporting neighborhood restaurants, retailers, and other businesses. Since launching in September 2024, Open Streets: West Walnut has repeatedly welcomed an average of more than 10,500 visitors.
