INDEPENDENCE mdash; The town of Independence honored three veterans who received Purple Hearts during a town hall.The Purple Heart is given to soldiers who were wounded in combat."I congratulate each and every one of you," a voice said as clapping followed.Buddy Rutland, Claude Fisher and Bill Perk ins all served in the Vietnam War. Rutland received two Purple Hearts since he was injured twice while in battle.Honor Guard Richard Ludwig II joined the group during the recognition.
