New Jersey State Police gathered evidence at Trenton City Hall Tuesday morning as part of an investigation into suspected misconduct by a former employee, according to city officials. Officials with the City of Trenton issued a statement about the investigation following reports of police activit y at City Hall around 10:30 a.m. In the statement, the City said it became aware in 2024 of theft allegations involving an employee in its Housing and Economic Development Department and launched an internal investigation. According to Mayor Reed Gusciora, city officials discovered allegations that money had been stolen from the City. The allegations led to the employee’s departure in 2024. The City then referred the case and its findings to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office for further investigation. “This Administration has zero tolerance for misconduct or violations of the public trust,” said Gusciora. “When credible allegations of wrongdoing come to our attention, we investigate them and, where appropriate, refer the matter to the proper law enforcement authorities. That is exactly what the City did here.” City officials did not release any further details about the allegations. “The overwhelming majority of City employees serve Trenton residents with honesty, professionalism, and dedication every day. Their public service should not be overshadowed by allegations involving the conduct of any one individual,” the City wrote in a statement. So far, no charges have been announced, and it is unclear if any will be filed.
