(Courtesy of LSF)LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 11)–Fresh off of completing the $1.2-million project for the newly named Bison Indoor Sports Center at the Lincoln Sports Foundation campus off of 70th and Arbor Road, comes news that LSF is expanding with six new hardwood courts for basketball and volleyball. (Courtesy of LSF) Sam Lesoing is the facilities director for the Lincoln Sports Foundation and tells KFOR News the expansion comes after Speedway Sports Complex announced this summer they are converting their own basketball and volleyball courts over to pickleball. “The Speedway news expedited kind of something we were considering with converting the TrackVille area over courts,” Lesoing said.  “There’s gonna be a lot of changes happening in a relatively short amount of time.” LSF announced on Sunday a $1.6 million project to renovate its lobby and mezzanine space and convert existing indoor space to four more dedicated volleyball courts that can also be used for other events or purposes. The project would also include doubling restroom capacity. (Courtesy of LSF) The new project for the non-profit LSF will replace space being used for track and field and will be funded with $1 million from Lancaster County’s Visitor Improvement Fund, which is funded by sales tax on dining and hotel stays. Half of the remaining money will come from a $300,000 grant, which is contingent on matching funds from donations and sponsorships. The first phase, covering the $1 million restroom and lobby work, is targeted to begin construction in winter 2026 and be complete by spring 2027. The second phase plans, which are currently partially funded, call for building out currently underutilized second-floor space into a mezzanine overlooking the indoor courts, increasing LSF’s ability to support spectators, tournament operations, hospitality and major events.   ...read more read less
