Trump ‘looking to see' if feds can stop New York's piedàterre tax

President Donald Trump is setting up another showdown with New York.
On Tuesday, the president fired off another TruthSocial post wherein he decried the city’s pied-à-terre tax a “disaster” and “dangerous political ‘experiment'” that he wants to federal government to squash.

It is pure Amateur Hour, and it’s hard, as President of the United States of America, to sit back and watch it happen, especially to a place I once loved,” Trump posted Tuesday morning.
The 47th president claimed the tax is costing New York “a fortune,” by driving away more people (and their taxes) to Florida and Texas. He believes the loss of revenue is to a tune much greater than what a pied-à-terre tax will collect.
Trump’s attention on the new tax comes only a day after a state court judge ordered a temporary block.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani has found himself in the hot seat throughout the tax’s rollout as New Yorkers decried his administration’s communication. In turn, the mayor pushed back a deadline, allowing New Yorkers an extra month to prove whether or not their property is exempt.
The pied-a-terre tax, championed jointly by the mayor and Gov. Kathy Hochul as a tax on second homes valued at more than $5 million, could impact less than 20,000 part-time residents.
