Police said a man was shot and returned fire during a gunfight that was sparked when a carjacking happened in West Philadelphia early Monday morning. According to police, the incident happened near the intersection of 51st and Kershaw streets at about 7:13 a.m. on Monday, when a man behind the wh eel of a blue Volvo was the target of a carjacking. During this incident, officials said, the suspected attackers produced a firearm and shot the victim. The victim, police said, then produced his own weapon and returned fire. The man that was struck was taken to a nearby hospital after the shooting where, officials said, he was listed in stable condition. At the scene, officials said, investigators recovered the victim’s firearm and four spent shell casings. Surveillance video from the scene shows armed gunmen rush across the roadway awhile gunfire can be heard. A woman’s voice shouting “stop, stop,” can be heard amid the gunshots, as well. Officials did not immediately provide additional information on the suspect in this incident and did not say if the carjacker was — or carjackers were — struck by gunfire.
