It's amazing out there, but definitely very hot. The safety department is prepared for various emergencies, including medical, security and weather-related issues. With extreme temperatures in the forecast, fair officials said keeping guests cool and hydrated is a priority."We want to make sure that everyone is staying safe here at the fairgrounds, said LeRoy Lewis III, Indiana State Fairgrounds director of community and media engagement. We have over 1 million square feet of indoor space that is air-conditioned for our fans. We also invested in some large, shaded areas this year."The fair allows and encourages visitors to bring umbrellas, personal fans and water bottles. We have water stations all over the place. We want them to feel free to bring water into the fairgrounds. As long as it's an unopened bottle or an empty water bottle, Lewis said.Visitors said they are using air conditioning, shaded areas and cold treats to stay cool.
