Puerto Rican Pride Fills The Green
Aug 09, 2026
Thousands from around the state danced, sang, ate — and kept the Puerto Rican flag aloft — on the Green Friday night through Saturday night for the 10th annual Puerto Rico Festival of New Haven sponsored by Puerto Ricans United.
Among the items on display: a brightly colored vejigante m
ask (above), part of a Puerto Rican festival tradition shaped by Spanish, African, and Taino influences.
The Green was already packed at 5:40 p.m., about an hour before headliner La India took the stage. It remained packed well past dark.
A colorful sea of umbrellas provided relief from the sun and the almost 90-degree heat.
Samba Fire turned up the energy even more.
Another Puero Rican tradition going strong: a game of dominoes.
Wife and Husband Randi Rubin Rodriguez and Sergio Rodriguez, longtime advocates for Puerto Rican culture and the New Haven community, were among the crowd.
