In Palo Alto, those living near Caltrain crossings will have to wait a bit longer before the train horns are quieted.
The city has been trying to win “quiet zone” designations from the federal government at its four rail crossings. The project is now being delayed due to concerns of traffic c
ongestion near or on the tracks.
Normally, trains are required to blare their horns four times to signal their approach to crossing traffic; in quiet zones, there is no horn. Instead, more secure gates are installed to prevent cars, bikes and pedestrians from accessing the tracks when a train is passing. ...read more read less
