The brush fire, dubbed the Beaver Fire, ignited around 2:20 p.m. along Skyline Truck Trail and quickly sent a dark plume of smoke over the area, ALERTCalifornia/UC San Diego cameras showed. The first engine on scene reported a three-acre fire with a moderate to dangerous rate of spread, Cal Fire Captain Oscar Sotelo said at the scene. In less than an hour, the fire grew to 20 acres and prompted evacuations. By about 5:30 p.m., forward progress had been stopped, according to Cal Fire. Crews will continue to work on containment into the evening. All evacuations were lifted at about 7 p.m., according to the Watch Duty app. An evacuation shelter has been established at Regal Cinemas in Rancho San Diego. It was not immediately clear how many residents were under evacuations but Sotelo said that some sheds, garages and homes were within the evacuation perimeter. Evacuations were ordered for zones SDC-2102 SDC-2158 and warnings were given for aones SDC-2020, SDC-2104, SDC-216. People in the area of an order, colored in red below, should leave immediately. Those in warning zones, yellow below, should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. Get updates through the Genasys Project here. Fire crews were tackling the blaze from the air and ground. Hand crews were cutting a containment line around the fire to stop its spread before it could affect structures in the area. “These boots on the ground are actually what’s separating that burnt fuel from the green vegetation and making that containment line. So they have a long night ahead of them to put that fire to bed,” Sotelo said. A portion of Skyline Truck Trail was closed amid the firefight.
