A wildfire has shut down US-20/26 between Reservoir Road and the Pine Featherville turnoff, officials say.In an emergency alert, residents within a 5-mile radius of Bennett Mountain Road are being told to prepare to evacuate.The U.S. Wildland Fire Service said crews first responded to the blaze reported near mile marker 115 at 2:59 p.m. Friday.As of 8:50 p.m. Friday, the fire has grown to over 1,500 acres, the USWFS said.Fire officials say that resources are working east-southeast of the fire to identify opportunities to prepare Bennett Mountain Road as a potential control line."The fire is demonstrating high resistance to suppression efforts due to current fire conditions and fuels," the USWFS said in an update. "Ground and air resources continue to conduct direct attack operations where conditions allow, working to slow the fires spread and protect values at risk."The Elmore County Sheriff told Idaho News 6 that a vehicle fire sparked the blaze.Officials are asking the public to avoid the area while crews respond.This is a developing story.
