A woman was killed and a child was injured in a shooting Friday morning in Chester County, according to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office. Chester County officials said officers were dispatched just before 11 a.m. to a home in the 400th building of the Summit House Condominium Compl ex in East Goshen Township after receiving a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 9-year-old girl with a gunshot wound and a woman in her 40s who was dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside the home, according to officials. Police said the girl was conscious and able to speak with officers arriving at the scene. She was transported to a hospital for treatment. “We’re deeply sorry for the family of the deceased and for the child that was struck by gunfire, and our hearts go out to the family, in particular. I know that the Summit House community, as they hear this news, has been deeply affected as well,” De Barrena-Sarobe said. According to Chester County District Attorney Christopher De Barrena-Sarobe, officers recovered a gun from the scene. Watch the full statement from Chester County officials in the video below: De Barrena-Sarobe said detectives are working to reconstruct the crime scene to get a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding the shooting. “We’re not releasing any of the details about who was struck by gunfire today because we’re in the early stages of investigation, and we need to make sure that we notify all the family members of those affected today,” De Barrena-Sarobe said. Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Chief David Leahy said “at no time was there an active threat to the community members” at the complex. De Barrena-Sarobe said those affected by the news are encouraged to call the Chester County mobile crisis team at 988. “They’re there to help people, and they will come to you if you’re in need of enough help,” De Barrena-Sarobe said.
