The chief financial officer for Franklin Township, New Jersey, has been arrested and charged with theft by deception following, what officials called, the alleged operation of a “double-billing” scheme. On Friday, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced that on August 4, 2026, Cameron T. Keng, 39, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, the Chief Financial Officer for Franklin Township, was arrested and charged with theft by deception. The charges come, officials said, following an investigation that began back in June. At that time, according to the prosecutors’ office, Unity Bank began an investigation into payroll fee transactions involving Franklin Township. During the course of this investigation, the bank, allegedly, determined a double-billing scheme was taking place and the findings were reported to police. However, officials did not immediately detail how many funds may have been impacted by this case, how long the alleged scheme may have been in operation or how many victims may have been effected. But, officials said, an investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Officials said Keng has been released following an initial court appearance and he has a pre-indictment conference scheduled for Sept. 14, 2026.
