A DuPage County judge on Friday ordered a former West Chicago third grade teacher detained after he was accused of sexually abusing five students multiple times over the 2025-2026 school year, county officials announced Friday.Mario Garcia, 54, of Aurora, was charged with two counts of predatory cri minal sexual assault of a child, five counts of aggravated sexual abuse and four counts of aggravated battery, according to a statement from the DuPage County state's attorney's office. Following a thorough, child-sensitive investigation, it was alleged that during the 2025-2026 school year, Garcia inappropriately touched five students on multiple occasions at Currier Elementary school, 800 Garys Mill Rd. the statement said. West Chicago police and the DuPage County Children’s Center were notified by authorities on May 14 of the allegations against Garcia.
