Aug 07, 2026
A sticky situation in Dallas had a happy ending for one raccoon named Mayonesa.
According to Dallas Animal Services, the young raccoon roamed a Dallas neighborhood with a mayonnaise jar stuck on her head for multiple days. Despite several sightings and rescue attempts, she managed to stay just o
ut of reach of DAS officers.
On Monday morning, DAS Officers Miller and Southerland found Mayonesa in a tree near an abandoned house. The officers watched her and waited for the right opportunity, DAS officials said.
When she finally climbed down and walked past them, Officer Southerland carefully approached her from behind and captured her.
According to Dallas Animal Services, Mayonesa was lightly sedated, given fluids and medications, and finally freed from the jar.
DAS officials said aside from dehydration after several days without food and water, she was in remarkably good condition and full of energy.
Texas Metro Wildlife will provide Mayonesa with a few days of care before she is released back into the wild, DAS officials said.
Dallas Animal Services reminded residents to dispose of jars, cans, and other containers responsibly because everyday household items can become dangerous when they end up in the environment.
