The Smithereens at the Egyptian Theatre The Smithereens, known for the hits “Blood and Roses,” “Only a Memory” and “A Girl Like You” that hit MTV and college radio in the ’80s and ’90s, will perform those songs as well as deep cuts during the band’s residency that runs through Sunday, at the Egyptian Theatre. The band — guitarist Jim Babjak, drummer Dennis Diken and touring bassist Severo Jornacion will perform with guest lead singer John Cowsill. Step into the past with the Historic Echo Church The historic Echo Church, located at 60 Temple Ln. in Echo, will welcome visitors from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. every Saturday through Sept. 5. Book to Film Club on Zoom The Summit County Library’s Book to Film Club will discuss Clint Bentley’s 2025 drama, “Train Dreams,” rated PG-13, at 6 p.m. on Thursday on Zoom. The film, which can be watched on Netflix, is based on Denis Johnson’s book, which is about Robert Grainier, played by Joel Edgerton, who lives in the forests of the Pacific Northwest and helps create a new world at the turn of the 20th century.
