Marcus’ 4 a.m. Friday forecast INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Muggy conditions continue across central Indiana as we wrap up the work week. Scattered storms will bring the potential for localized flooding through Friday night, with the highest chances across eastern counties. Heat and humidity wi ll build this weekend before an isolated severe weather threat develops Sunday afternoon through Monday night. This morning There’s a few storms rolling through southern portions of the state early this morning. Heavy downpours have created some flooding concerns over Jackson and Jennings counties, where over 1″ of rainfall has fallen over just a few minutes. Fog is also developing across portions of western and northwestern Indiana, where a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until mid-morning. Today Scattered showers and storms will develop through the afternoon, with the best chances across eastern counties from Richmond to Muncie and points south. Areas along and east of the I-65 corridor will have higher rain chances compared to western Indiana. Some of these storms could produce heavy rainfall. Because we’ve seen multiple rounds of rain this week, the ground is already saturated in many areas. This raises the concern for localized ponding and flash flooding, particularly where storms stall or train over the same locations. Highs today will range from the low 80s in far northern counties to the mid-80s in southern Indiana. But with the high humidity, it’ll feel more like the low 90s across much of the state. Tonight Scattered showers and storms will linger into the evening hours, mainly in eastern and southern counties. The best chance for any heavy downpours will be south and east of Indianapolis. Any areas that see repeated rounds of storms could deal with localized ponding on roadways and in low-lying areas. Flash flooding will remain the primary concern through Friday night, especially in areas that have already received heavy rain earlier this week. Overnight lows will only drop into the upper 60s across most of central Indiana. With dew points remaining in the low 70s, it’s going to be another muggy night. Weekend outlook The unsettled weather pattern will stick around through the weekend. Saturday will bring a mix of sun and clouds with isolated to scattered showers and storms possible, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s on Saturday, with some spots in southern Indiana possibly touching 90 degrees. Humidity will remain high, with dew points in the low 70s. Heat index values will be in the low to mid-90s. Sunday looks similar, with partly cloudy skies and isolated afternoon storms possible. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s again, and the heat index could reach the mid-90s as humidity levels stay elevated. There’s a low end threat for a few gusty storms Sunday afternoon and evening. Central and western Indiana are under a level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms. Early next week The active weather pattern continues into early next week. Monday will feature highs in the upper-80s, and heat indices close 10 100° with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring better rounds of rain and storms. Heavy rain will remain the primary concern, as multiple rounds of storms could lead to additional flooding issues in areas that have already seen significant rainfall. By Thursday, we should see a slight cooldown, with highs dropping into the upper 70s to low 80s. Rain chances will gradually decrease by midweek, but isolated storms can’t be ruled out.
