Philadelphia will dry out as showers and thunderstorms move away with lower humidity making for a more comfortable Tuesday under a mix of sun and clouds. Heat and humidity gradually build back into the region by midweek bringing renewed chances for scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms W ednesday through Friday. While widespread washout days are not expected, any storms that develop could produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. Afternoon temperatures will generally reach the upper 80s to near 90 degrees through the week into next week with warm and muggy nights. Looking ahead, above-average warmth is expected to continue into the weekend. Stormy Monday kicks off the work week Ongoing storms Monday morning with downpours led to flash flood warnings. The Philadelphia International Airport had seen flight cancelations and delays due to the storm and a “Ring The Bell” back-to-school bus event planned at MLK High School was canceled due to the weather. Officials said a rescheduled date would be announced in the near future. With the potential for more periods of heavy rain with thunderstorms, a flash flood watch continued until 11 p.m. on Monday night. Downpours led to flash flooding and some thunderstorms could be stronger, which produced damaging wind. Very warm humid air fueled these showers and thunderstorms as a cold front slowly pushed through the area into the evening. During the storms Monday, morning commuters in New Jersey’s Camden County found roadways flooded. After the storms, we saw breaks of sunshine this afternoon and that may heat the atmosphere up just enough for another round of strong thunderstorms later in the afternoon and early evening.
