Independence Day may have been last month, but America is still celebrating its 250th anniversary. The next event on President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 plan is the Patriot Games, which is “a national athletic competition celebrating the character, determination, and excellence that define t he American spirit,” according to its website. The competition will feature young boys and girls from each state, including some athletes from tribal nations, as they compete against one another for scholarship money. The Patriot Games is a national competition started by Trump that “will bring together outstanding young Americans from across the nation to compete, inspire, and showcase the values that have shaped the United States for nearly 250 years.” Individual and team sports such as basketball and track will be included, as well as the Presidential Fitness Test, a military-style bootcamp and an obstacle course. When are the Patriot Games? The games will run from Sunday, Aug. 9, to Tuesday, Aug. 11. Athletes will arrive one to two days prior. Where are the Patriot Games? SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, will be the location for the games. Who can compete in the Patriot Games? According to Freedom 250’s website, the games will feature “outstanding high school athletes ages 14-17 representing America’s great states and territories, alongside athletes from tribal nations, for a showcase of determination, teamwork, resilience, and hometown pride.” An application process was also featured for prospective competitors.
