A pediatric measles case has been reported in the Lehigh Valley, doctors from St. Luke’s Health announced on Monday. St. Luke’s said it was the first measles case they have treated “in recent memory.” The health system did not disclose where exactly the case arose from. Measles ca ses have been on the rise in the Philadelphia region this summer, with outbreaks reported in Chester County and Delaware. Early symptoms of measles include cough, fever, red, watery eyes and then a rash, officials said. Measles can result in pneumonia, brain infection and death. Although there is a vaccine to protect against measles, outbreaks have been rising in the U.S. in recent years due to people opting to not get the shot.
