San Diego Gas Electric responded to a power outage that impacted SeaWorld San Diego on Friday afternoon. The outage was reported at around noon, according to the SDGE outage map, which showed it was impacting almost two dozen customers, SeaWorld being one of them. Tracy Spahr, spokesperson fo r the marine life park, said the outage affected a portion of the park but was not affecting animal welfare. “We are working closely with SDGE to restore power as quickly as possible. All animal care and life support systems remain fully operational. The safety and well-being of our guests, ambassadors, and animals remain our highest priority,” Spahr said. The park shut down for the rest of the day as a result of the outage, which was inconveniencing parkgoers. “We were at the orca show, and they just didn’t do the show. The screen went down,” said Paul Addicott, who was at SeaWorld visiting from London with his family. Addicott said his family tried to use the restrooms but were told to leave the restroom because there was no power. “The power went out around noon. I had ordered food on mobile, and I didn’t get to get my food because of the outage. We asked multiple employees, and no one knew what was going on,” said Maria Rodriguez, who was at SeaWorld visiting from San Francisco with her family. “So we decided to leave because we were all hungry.” SDGE said on its website it expected power to be restored by 10 p.m. The park said guests can use their ticket to go back another day or get a refund.
