Former peace officer pleads guilty to 2 counts of sexual exploitation of a child

A former licensed peace officer has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern District of Texas.
Skyler Douglas Laza, 34, pleaded guilty on July 27, 2026, before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love.
Laza persuaded a mino
r under the age of 12 to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of creating a visual depiction using a cell phone, according to court documents.
The terms of Lana’s plea agreement state that he’ll be sentenced to federal prison for a range between 40-60 years with a lifetime supervision and sex offender registration.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Laza’s actual sentence will be determined by the court, at a later date, based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
