A former licensed peace officer has pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern District of Texas. Skyler Douglas Laza, 34, pleaded guilty on July 27, 2026, before U.S. Magistrate Judge John D. Love. Laza persuaded a mino r under the age of 12 to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of creating a visual depiction using a cell phone, according to court documents. The terms of Lana’s plea agreement state that he’ll be sentenced to federal prison for a range between 40-60 years with a lifetime supervision and sex offender registration. This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
