Colts Insider Day One Training Camp
WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — It was the unofficial start of the Colts season on Wednesday, as it was the first day of training camp at Grand Park in Westfield.
Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was a full participant in practice after tearing his Achilles in Dec
ember. It was his goal to be back for training camp, and the goal was achieved.
WISH-TV and WRTV Colts Insider Kevin Bowen broke down what he saw from Jones.
“I thought the biggest thing was he moved out of the pocket,” Bowen said. “When we saw him in the spring, he wasn’t doing the full 11-on-11 reps. He did all of them today, so check that box. But then again, movement, rolling out, making throws on the run, that is something that was so critical to his success last season when this offense had a a historic start.”
Bowen has covered the Colts for 16 years and is a radio host for 107.5 The Fan, hosting “The Fan Morning Show.”
Another important aspect of Jones being back for training camp is continuity. The Colts have been lacking continuity at the quarterback position, but this season, they have that.
“This is Daniel Jones’ football team,” Bowen said. “As long as his health continues to cooperate, this is going to be the guy. I think that’s really important just to have some continuity at a position they have not had in years.”
The big news on Wednesday outside of Jones is running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor is entering the final year of his contract, but importantly, he did practice on Wednesday. Bowen shared what he learned about Taylor’s situation.
“It sounds like talks are ongoing,” Bowen said. “He has some good feelings that they can get something done before the start of the year, but I think this is nothing near the venomous nature it turned into a couple of off seasons ago.”
Taylor has said that he wants to be a Colt for life.
Colts training camp continues on Thursday, with practice scheduled to run from 10-11 a.m.
