1. Pittsburgh VegFest at Allegheny Commons Park, Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
If you need a clean break from all the fried festival food you’ve been devouring this summer, it’s time to fill your plate, and please your palate, with the power of plants. Infusing Pittsburgh’s summer festival scene with conscientious eating, consumerism and advocacy, VegFest moves to the first weekend of August to host its 12th annual event. Eat your way through the region’s top vegan eateries and small-batch food purveyors lining the historic park. Hosted by Justice For Animals, the delicious lineup of 125 vendors features new additions and returning favorites — from Fed by Vegans, Onion Maiden and The Sister House, to Feasty Vegan, Squash the Beef and Bruster’s Ice Cream. Experience how plant-based cuisine can make everything taste better — from tacos and “wings” to mac and cheese, doughnuts and empanadas.
