State Rep. Pat Dillon rolled out two more primary-season endorsements on Monday — one from the Building and Construction Trades Council of New Haven and Vicinity, the other from the Connecticut State Building Trades Council. The endorsements mark just the latest in the run-up to the Aug. 11 Dem ocratic primary for the 92nd General Assembly District seat, which covers parts of Amity, Westville, Edgewood, Dwight, and the Hill. Dillon, a 21-term incumbent and deputy majority leader, is seeking another two years in office. She is facing challenges from fellow Democrats Eli Sabin and Justin Farmer. “Your advocacy for fair wages, safe working conditions, and strong labor standards has not gone unnoticed,” New Haven Building Trades President Christopher Cozzi wrote in a March 18 endorsement letter, newly released by Dillon’s campaign on Monday. “Time and again, you have stood with organized labor on the issues that matter most to our members and their families. We are especially appreciative of your steadfast support of Project Labor Agreements (PLAs), which play a critical role in ensuring quality construction, workforce stability, and opportunities for local skilled tradespeople.” “As a long-time friend and supporter of working men and women in Connecticut’s unionized construction industry, you have consistently demonstrated your commitment to protecting and advancing issues important to our members and their families,” wrote CT State Building Trades Council President Keith Brothers and Executive Director Joe Toner in a separate, May 27 endorsement letter. That second letter states that the Connecticut State Building Trades Council represents 13 different crafts encompassing roughly 30,000 construction workers across Connecticut. “Electing leaders like yourself is critical to protecting core standards such as prevailing wage laws, Project Labor Agreements, workforce development initiatives, strong apprenticeship and apprenticeship-readiness programs, occupational licensing standards, and open competitive bidding laws,” the letter states. In a separate comment included in Dillon’s endorsement announcement, Dillon is quoted as welcoming the support of organizations that represent “the hardworking men and women who build our schools, hospitals, roads, and communities every day. Throughout my time in the legislature, I have fought for fair wages, safe workplaces, strong apprenticeship programs, and policies that create opportunities for Connecticut workers.
