The United States and Iran continued holding back from new attacks as officials explored whether the temporary pause could create space for negotiations. CNN’s live coverage said President Donald Trump halted further US strikes after nearly two weeks of military action. CNN also noted that Iran si gnaled it would suspend its own operations as long as Washington maintained the pause. A senior Iranian official described Tehran’s position as attack for attack, making clear that the arrangement is not a formal ceasefire and could collapse if either side resumes military action. The fighting has centered partly on the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas shipments. Disruption in the waterway has affected commercial traffic and added pressure to energy markets. Regional mediators are continuing efforts to bring both governments back to talks. Major disagreements remain, including Iran’s nuclear program, shipping security and military activity across the region. For now, the pause has lowered the immediate risk of further escalation.
